The Prime is part of Netgear's recent foray into media players, and competes directly with the Sony GoogleTV. My personal number one feature that I'm looking for in a media player is the Slingbox application "SlingPlayer" as a replacement for Slingmedia's now discontinued SlingCatcher, which is still held as the gold standard for Slingbox media playback on home theater systems. However, clearly this box has far more capabilities beyond Slingbox connectivity. Among the most popular "channels" available include: Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, HBO Go. GoogleTV also provides the Chrome internet browser and support for Flash playback. It was easy for me to switch between devices to watch movies or browse the internet, but even with a programmable remote it proved to be difficult for anyone else. The neotv prime has made it much simpler for other users to enjoy all the media I have to offer. So far I love using it, it is great experience to be able to have android on top of my cable subscription. I can simply search for a channel or a show and if I find what I am looking for the device will automatically change the channel for me. I can even add channels to my favorites list (separate from my cable boxes favorites) and it will show me what program is playing on those channels and how much time is let in the program. I wanted it mainly so I could stream content from my PC to my TV using an android app called Emit, and this works flawlessly. Netflix also works fine. Amazon has not released an Android app for Amazon Video so I'm not sure why some people were expecting that functionality. I do not run my TV through the device or use HBO Go so I can't speak to that, but if you want access to android apps on a TV, it works fine. It starts up and runs everything quickly. The remote is intuitive, easy to use, and it's nice to have a full keyboard on the back. |
