To add - when I opened the package it smelled of sweet charred oak :) I can't wait to show off my new Pi in it's beautiful Oak case!An FYI to anyone, none of the layers need to be forced "over" the board. Layer them from the back cover, then 7, then 6, then the board, etc... A slight adjustment may need to be made after initial assembly to slide the SD card in place. Other than that, all of the sockets fit smoothly and tightly with the case - kudos to the engineering and tolerances! Even the connections finish nicely against the case (the power socket is left a little more open in case you use a power supply with a slightly larger connector than your standard cell phone micro USB). That said, it basically looks good and it's just a neat, laser-cut, build-it-yourself-out-of-pre-cut-pieces sort of thing worth having.I will mention but not complain about a genuine problem: a mis-fit piece; a capacitor (I guess) on the Pi board lay under an edge of the case, which kept the case from sitting down flush. I had to cut a tiny notch in a slice of this case where it was sitting on the capacitor. So that's an issue, but it was easy to resolve with a utility knife. I expect anyone shopping wooden boxes for their Pi's are pretty handy with a utility knife. Hence four stars. Two more things of note: These burned-'oak' boxes do smell nice. Cheaper plastic boxes look good, too, I think. Nice to have one of each. |
